Screws |
Screws Stainless steel screws are threaded mechanical devices used in tooth movement procedures. They come in a variety of different sizes and designs. With the exception of the rapid palatal screws, they are usually activated with either wire keys or small screwdrivers at a rate that allows for approximately 1mm of movement a month. This is considered the optimum rate of movement and is what the operator should expect from most designs. Palatal Screw The Palatal screws can be used for either transverse or sagittal development. They are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, making them suitable for different arch forms. Smaller sizes may also be used for individual tooth movements or for unilateral crossbites.
Mini-Screw Mini-Screw A Mini-screw is similar to the palatal screw in design and function. This "mini" version is used effectively for single tooth movement. Although this screw adds additional bulk to the appliance in the area of the expansion screw itself, it is typically preferred over a micro-screw as it is not as fragile and provides more surface contact with the tooth needing movement. |
